Patient And Family Rights
- The right to be informed in writing of all their rights and responsibilities in an understandable and simple language and access to translator when needed.
- The right of patients, and in some circumstances the right of the patient’s family, preferences to determine what information regarding their care would be provided to family or others, and under what circumstances.
- The right of respect of their personal values and beliefs and responds to routine and complex requests related to spiritual and religious support.
- The right to receive equal care with kindness, respect and dignity regardless of race, age, religion, gender, national origin, physical or mental disability;
- The right of privacy and respect their privacy for all clinical interviews, examinations, procedures/ treatments, and transport.
- The right to receive information about the hospital’s responsibility for protecting personal belongings and the safeguarded of patients’ possessions when the hospital assumes responsibility or when the patient is unable to assume responsibility
- The right of protection from neglect and abuse, and identifying populations at risk and protecting them from additional vulnerabilities.
- The right of reducing physical, language, cultural, and other barriers to access and delivery of services and the right to be offered the reasonable help in case of physical, visual, hearing disability whenever needed which include parking, wheel chairs, special needs toilets by the hospital.
- The right of confidentiality of patient information to be maintained according to laws and regulations and to grant their permission for releasing of information not covered by laws and regulations.
- The right to be informed about their right to participate in making informed decisions about health care process, treatment(s), and services to the extent they wish and their choices are respected.
- The right to identify who the patient wishes to participate in care decisions.
- The right to receive adequate information about their medical condition, confirmed diagnosis, and health care practitioners so that they can make care decisions.
- The right to be facilitated to seek a second opinion without fear of compromise to their care within or outside the hospital.
- The right of patient, and in some circumstances the right of the patient’s family, to be informed of the outcome of care including adverse events or unanticipated negative outcomes.
- The right to refuse or discontinue treatment after signing refusal form which include information about available care and treatment alternatives and the risks and consequences of treatment refusal.
- The right of assessment and management of the dying patient’s needs with hospital’s staff understand the personal, cultural, and societal influences on the patient’s experiences with death and dying.
- The right to be informed about the hospital process to receive and to act on complaints, conflicts, and differences of opinion about patient care and the patient’s right to participate in these processes and fair management of complaints in a reasonable timeframe.

- Organ donation and transplantation services are not within the scope of services of Procare Riaya Hospital; however, the patients and families have the right to be informed about how to choose to donate organs and other tissues by contacting the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation.
- The right to be informed the proposed treatment(s), which include the patient’s condition, the name of the person providing the treatment, potential benefits and drawbacks, possible alternatives, the likelihood of success, possible problems related to recovery, and possible results of non-treatment, the estimated cost of treatment, and the right to be informed about which tests and treatments require written informed consent by signing the informed consent form (after being informed and understanding of the content of the consent and providing translator when needed) including:
- All types of surgical procedures including minor or major surgery.
- All types of anesthesia including general, regional, or local anesthesia.
- Procedural sedation including moderate and deep sedation.
- Endoscopy procedures.
- Biopsy aspiration by needle.
- Radiological imaging with contrast.
- Use of blood and or blood product.
- Aspirating body fluids by needle excluding blood arterial/venous blood specimens.
- Insertion of chest tube.
- Central line insertion including arterial, venous and umbilical.
- Use of chemotherapeutic medications.
- Any other high-risk treatment/invasive procedure.
- Medical Photographs, Videography and Cinematography.
- Testing for Antibodies to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
- Transfer to another hospital
Patient And Family Responsibilities
- Presenting personal identification.
- Provide complete and accurate history, health information and health insurance (if applicable).
- Reporting any changes in the patient’s health.
- Notifying the physician about lack of understanding of the treatment plan and interventions.
- Ensuring that financial obligations due for the hospital are fulfilled promptly.
- Following the recommended treatment plan, where the patient or his/her legal guardian is responsible for his/her actions and the consequences in case he/she refused treatment.
- Treating all personnel, patients and visitors with courtesy, and respect.
- Following the general rules in addition to respecting others cultural, spiritual and personal values and beliefs and privacy.
- Be respectful to the Procare Riaya Hospital policies and procedures (e.g., visiting hours, no smoking policy, use of electrical appliances, safety of belongings and security regulations).
- Using the facilities and equipment in the health facilities safely and correctly.
- Preserving the properties of the hospital and others.
- Keeping appointments and notifying the hospital when the patient is unable to do so for any reason.
- Implementing the hospital transfer or discharge decisions.
Children Additional Special Rights:
- Children will not be subjected to any medical treatment without prior consent from a parent, legal guardian, or the court system. The only exception to this is in the event of an emergency, when treatment would begin immediately.
